To Friends and people of God

At the end, my entire village has gone!

In grief, I am writing to bring to your attention the tragedy that our people in the Nuba Mountains are experiencing since mid March up to the present. The Nuba Mountains region is located in the South Kordofan State; it is the part of the Republic of Sudan. People in the Nuba Mountains are experiencing brutal ground attacks and aerial bombardment on a daily basis from the Sudan Armed Forces SAF (Government of Sudan) who have been fighting the Sudan People’s Liberation Army/Movement - North (SPLA/M-N) (Opposition Party) since the year 2011; causing a loss of many lives and destruction of property.

The situation of the people has become more difficult with the recent intensification of aggression on the civilian population that started since mid March 2016 to this month of April. This scale of the war has spread all over the Nuba Mountains and the Blue Nile Regions. Mostly these areas in South Kordofan are controlled by the SPLA/M N. As a result, our Diocese of Kadugli is divided into two parts; some of its churches fall in the area controlled by the Government of Sudan, and others in the SPLA/M N controlled areas.

The Government of Sudan currently has so far sustained attacks on the areas of: Karakaria and the villages around like: Al-Hibaial, Loopa, Ekwartang the village where Bishop Andudu was born and raised. The government of Sudan sent more than three thousand of its Sudan Armed Forces SAF to attack the above villages. They killed and drove people away, occupied the villages for six days before the Sudan Liberation troops defeated them and drove them out of the villages, but the Sudan Armed Forces SAF left nothing in the villages.

•    Killed over 22 people (civilians) including children and elderly people, many are still missing.

•    Burnt almost all houses and looted the property.

•    Destroyed the only boarding secondary school in Umdorain County (Grace Secondary School) all school buildings and all properties destroyed to the ground with bulldozers (schools built by the Diocese of Kadugli in 2008)

•    Burnt crops (Sorghum, Sesame, Groundnuts main food) the people harvested in the last year season.

•    Two churches were burned and another one was shot from inside, all the iron sheets on the roof were destroyed.

Civilians are currently, left in open spaces, rivers, valleys and in caves on the mountains, they are facing challenges to cope with the situation. The next rainy season will starts in June.  At the moment there is no humanitarian assistance by international NGOs or the UN agencies to assist the people in need, the government of Sudan led by president El-Bashir (who is indicted by the International Criminal Court) expelled and banned all humanitarian agencies and all NGOs working in Sudan which was aiding  people of the Nuba Mountains. The same applies to the areas that were directly involved in the war too i.e. Blue Nile.

Almost Every day I receive sad news, therefore, I am requesting:

•    Prayers for People in the Nuba Mountains and other places experiencing war, pray for peace that God stops the bloodshed of innocent people. (I still believe in prayers and good negotiation strategies, peace will prevail)

•    Finance support to buy food items to the people who lost everything and are already experiencing hunger, especially families with children and elderly people.

God bless you
