Implementing Sector:   Diocese of Kadugli, Liaison Office, Juba

Duration:                         One Year Plan

Executive Summary:

Nuba Mountains as known also by South Kordofan state is in the south of Republic of the Sudan. People in Nuba Mountains have experienced half peace between the government of Sudan and SPLA/ M when both signed the cease fire agreement at that time in year 2002. Later on it was followed by the signing CPA in the year 2005, during these years Nuba people enjoyed that peace in which they again found themselves in another continuing war up to now.

However, the situation of the people become very difficult when the war spread out in 2011 in Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile between the government and the SPLA/ N. Most of the areas in the South Kordofan are controlled by the SPLA/ N, and that let the Diocese of Kadugli to divide into two parts, in which some churches fall on the government side and the other fall in the SPLA/ N areas.

With the prospects of war reconstruction, rehabilitation and development of war affected areas are top priorities. As witnessed throughout the war, theNubaMountainslagged behind in services. The education sector is greatly affected as there were no infrastructure and professional teachers who could deliver services. Most of the schools operating in the Region run by community support. Classes and offices are built with local material that does not last for a long time before crumbling to the ground. In many cases locally constructed classrooms pose a great risk to children and teachers. It is against this background that the Episcopal Church of Sudan wishes to alleviate the school structure to acceptable standards.

The Episcopal Church of Sudan, Diocese of Kadugli runs two schools in Tanglevillage ofNgorbanCounty. The school runs form class 1 to Primary 8.

These schools are built with local resources and there is a great need to alleviate the schools structures to ensure safety of the pupils and reduce costs of reconstruction and marinating the locally built structure. ECS would like to renovate  4 classrooms, 8teachers' rooms and 1 kitchen, 1 a Store room, and Text books,   pupils seats and desks.

ECS also would like to support financially the (5) Sudanese professional teachers with incentives and (7) part time and the total of teachers are (12) in number.

Furthermore we invite the Christian Partners Development Agency (CPDA) to duplicate the same development program they run around the globe, which is very suitable toSudan. Funding and implementation of this project, will enable the schools expand their operations and provide better, efficient and quality education services to more people  in the region.

The number of schools under Kadugli Dioceses 2primary schools which is now frozen due to the ongoing conflict in the region with the total of pupils 308, but many of these schools are still under temporary shades among these few are constructed and also destroyed by the ongoing air bombardment in the area  with no school furniture. With the ongoing war/ conflict displaced all students to neighboring country especially primary education four to eight and those in secondary education seeking better education both in South Sudan, Kenya and Uganda and also the teachers need more training.

Problem Justification:

The rehabilitation project for three primary schools are part of the efforts of developing a well established schools for theNubaMountains. Supporting teachers financially will help us to get the professional teachers for the quality education. The current structures are unreliable and poses risks to the children as well as it puts unnecessary burden to the community who have to reconstruct classes after the rainy season each year. The classrooms are poorly ventilated which also poses health hazards during the outbreaks of epidemics such as meningitis and other communicable diseases. Spacing in the locally constructed classrooms makes it difficult for children in the back rows to view the blackboard as the classrooms are ever dark due to poor construction techniques applied.
